Customer Reviews

Really wanted to love this gadgetI really wanted to love this strainer. I researched them and knew I wanted stainless with a handle. This one is nice and sturdy which is very important and easy to use-nice flat handle to put against the pot handle (round ones make it awkward). It can be easily used by a right or left handed person. The big problem is the curve on top is too low, making it difficult to use effectively. It should just go straight across with no dip at all. The food wants to go right over the strainer and into the sink with the water. I have to stain very slowly and carefully which is cumbersome and no t always easy to do with the bigger pots. It was one of those things that you need to use for a while to determine if it's good or not. Unfortunately, my return window passed while I was determining if it was me or the strainer that was the issue! I've had others try it and they all agree with me, sadly the height is just too low to be a good strainer. I have yet to find one with a handle that is straight across. 2Ambidextrous strainer. Just keep an eye out for rust.Bought this in Sept 2014 largely because it could be used with either hand. In that sense it has worked well. After a year, though, I see some signs of rust forming along the lip piece that catches the side of the pot. I had hoped 18/8 would remain rust-free for a good while longer than that. 3Works great, especially if space in your kitchen is an issue. Our giant strainer was always taking up 100% of the room in our dish drying wrack. This little guy works for straining all of our pasta, and we only have to pull out the big one for washing grapes and such, although I guess we could just wash them in a big bowl and still use this for draining the water. 5Good productWe had a similar strainer for years, made out of plastic. Not sure of the brand, but it's "fault" being made of plastic pouring boiling water thru it made it flexible and hard to hold in place without you getting burned, scalded, etc. That has all gone away with the stainless steel this is made from. 5Perfect!I had one of these strainers made of plastic and worried it would break. So, I found this one and it is made for either left or right handed use. It's perfect when you don't need a full size colander. In fact, I use it even when I probably should use a big colander either by straining some then tilting the pan the opposite direction to shift the contents then strain again and repeat those steps until done OR, for example with browned hamburger, I strain a little then use a slotted spoon to move part of the hamburger to a paper towel and then resume using my wonderful new metal strainer to finish straining the browned hamburger. I don't know how I ever got by without it. The only change I would make would be to make the top edge straight rather than having the center top edge curve down just to provide a fraction more straining capability. Even so, I love this darn thing! And I don't have to worry that it's going to break while I'm straining a big pot of spoghetti and dump all my pasta into the sink! I'm actually surprised that I love this item as much as I do! LOL! It's worth every penny. 5Good build, small sizeThe strainer is even sturdier than I expected (I bent the heck of my previous one), but I was not prepared for its small surface area. The dimensions listed are for the overall length, including the handle. This strainer will work on pots and saute pans up to 10", but beyond that you WILL lose food around it. If you, like me, routinely use and need to drain a 12" saute pan or skillet, get something bigger than this. But if you're OK with the size, this sturdy little guy seems up for some heavy use. 3So good, I bought one for Mom tooI wish I'd had one of these starting a decade ago!Pros:StainlessSturdyAmbidextrousGoes through the dishwasherStrains stuff like it claimsCons:Be careful not to tip the tip into the air and dribble hot water onto your wristCovers only roughly the bottom 1/3 of the pot opening, which is generally plenty but sometimes it isn't.Nothing else!I bought one for Mom. She said, "The strainer thingie works really well. I cooked your father greens and used it to drain the water. Much better than using the lid and losing half down the drain. Thank you." 5Sturdy and can use on either side of the panThis thing is great and easier to use than a drainer or a colander. It has a lip sticking out on both sides along the bottom so that you can snuggle it up to the pan and keep it right in place when using, no matter which side of the pan you were draining out of. It s not very big so you would not be able to use it for a whole pot of pasta, but it s great for draining small amounts of stuff. I have just been putting it in the dishwasher and it seems to do fine in there. 5How have I lived without this...This is one of those kitchen gadgets I should have had ages ago. Every time I went to drain something from a pan, I would always just shield the meat or vegetable on the bottom of the pan with my hand to prevent it from spilling out while straining the excess fat or juice. It never worked well. And, I would constantly look for something in the kitchen that would handle this process better without having to pull out a big colander. This pot strainer accomplishes just that and I couldn't be happier. It works very well. I go to it all the time now. I can easily hold the pan/container and the strainer at the same time. It works left or right handed and easily fits in a drawer. So there is no effort to access it when you need it. That is the real test for me in the kitchen. Whether it is a kitchen gadget or appliance, if it takes effort to get it out, the less I will use it. 5Is It Possible to Love a Strainer? My adult son used this strainer at our house while helping me cook dinner and was praising it. I had to agree. It's great for lefties or righties, and it is so strong and well made that there is no danger of pieces breaking off or of being burned. I actually wound up getting him one for his home as part of his Christmas gifts (okay, one of the "small" gifts) and honestly, he was very pleased with it, as pleased as he was with the stainless steel crockpot we gave him too! It's a great choice, and I highly recommend it. Well made. 5
