Customer Reviews

Great door stopper. Stylish and functional. The door to our apartment has a fairly strong auto closer. Most of the time this is great, but sometimes I would like to keep it open, for instance when I am brining groceries in. This does the trick very nicely. It is just strong enough to hold with our closer but easy to pull off to close the door.Mounting is a bit of a pain, as it is sort of hard to get the disk out of the wall portion. I ended up using a pair of needle nose pliers. When mounting, alignment is an issue and the instructions don't really tell you how to get it right. What I did was make a test fit and then mount the door part about where I thought it needed to be, and then put the wall part on the wall with it assembled and draw a circle around it with pencil. This got a perfect mounting so the two parts align perfectly. 5Rok inferior to EverbiltDespite Rok's nicer packaging, the quality difference is striking between Rok and an Amazon competitor, Everbilt. We had bought Rok twice before with a noticeable downgrade in function between the first and second. I returned and replaced the third one because of a lack of magnetism. Because the Everbilt replacement was heavier with superior hardware, I tore out and returned the second one also (even though I was beyond the time limit for returns). The attached photos show some differences - however, the head-on shot does not show the spring strength and photos cannot show the weight upgrade. 2Worked on light hallow core door, Not on heavy garage entry doors.I purchased this because it was the finish I was looking for. When I received it I noticed right away the magnet was half as strong as another brand I bought to compare with. I also noticed there were only two screws to anchor to the sheetrock wall where the other brand had 3 screws. This was my first concern because I attach them at the top of the door so they are not in the way when vacuuming or mopping. Anyway with the weaker magnet, two screws for mounting was sufficient. I wanted to use this on a garage entry door, but with a solid core door with spring hinges the magnet was not strong enough to hold the door. I ended up using it on a light hallow core bedroom door and it worked ok except sometimes when I open the spring would kick the door off the magnet. The two parts do need to be lined up perfectly for the magnet to hold, which can be tricky. If you need to make adjustments like I did it's as easy as removing one screw on the part you attach to the door and rotating it just enough to drill one new screw hole. Depend on which screw you remove you can rotate it in 4 different directions.TIP: mount the part with the magnet first and let it hold the other part, swing the door open and when it touches, make sure the part is flush to the door. With a short pencil trace around the part that will be attached to the door. Now you just need to screw the second part in the center of the circle that you traced on the door. I got the second one dead on. 3GREAT quality, appearance and functionGREAT quality, appearance and function. I mounted on our front door to let breezes in as desired, without the wind slamming the door shut. Our new wood floor overlay leaves no gap for a door wedge to work, so this is perfect if not better. Our door's middle hinge is moderately springed to shut the door automatically. This product's magnet is perhaps medium strength so if you have a STRONG door-return mechanism, it may not hold the door open. -Make sure- during mounting that the stem meets up with the receiver perfectly for max holding power. This took me two tries. I ended up taping the the receiver cup on the already mounted stem and pressed it to the door and then marked it, drilled holes, screwed in, and success. Love it. All those years of stooping down to block the door open with something heavy are over. Now, I just open the door until I hear a gentle 'click' and it stays open until I decide to close it with one finger. -Brett in Portland 5The magnet is mehThe magnet in this door stop barely holds the door. I usually buy these at Home Depot, but I ordered this one because (1) I was too lazy to go to Home Depot and (2) I thought it was the same thing. Fortunately, I don't need any more of these. If you need one, don't be as lazy as I was. 2Broke During InstallationThe stem that screws into the long end separated from the base as I screwed it into the door, making it completely unusable. The part of the long end that gets mounted to the wall/door is a plate with 2 holes and a stem that goes through a hole in the center. The stem protrudes on the other side, so when the screws are tightened it forces the stem to detach from the base. I don't understand how anyone could get this to work. Bad design. Amazon return was easy. 1Perfect for the door we needed to stay open that ...Perfect for the door we needed to stay open that would slowly shut. We intentionally chose this one b/c the magnet is not that strong -- I've gotten these for a condo that had wind blowing hard through it and the doors really needed to be held strongly by the magnet. Other magnetic door stops are much stronger, but they're also hard to pull closed! If you have a door that just needs a light stick to stay open, this is the right one b/c there is no "yank" necessary to close it/release the magnets. 5Need to be gentle when installingI have ordered these type of doorstops in the past (similar design, other vendors) and always liked how useful they are. I recently ordered two of these Rok doorstops. The 3-inch section consists of two pieces - a molded arm holding the magnet, and a flat disk that has a threaded stud attached to it. The stud is kind of riveted to the disk. While installing one of my doorstops, I was twisting the 3-inch arm onto the threaded stud to snug it against the door and the stud just popped off the disk. Unfortunately, the 30-day return period had expired, so I needed to purchase another doorstop. I was only moderately hand-tightening the arm, so either I received a defective item, or these new doorstops weren't manufactured the same way previous doorstops were.(Update) The second doorstop was fine, so the first was just defective. But I read a couple of other reviews with the same problem (stud breaking off), so apparently it does happen occasionally. I got a replacement from Home Depot, which sells two different brands. I chose the Everbilt brand, which uses a different design with a bolt and nut instead of the threaded stud, so it won't break in the same way. It also has a stronger magnet, however it offers fewer finish choices. The Richelieu brand appears to be the same design as this Rok design. And that's way more research than should be needed for buying a doorstop ... 3This thing is ace!I replaced the hinges on my bathroom door and it started closing by itself afterwards. So, I thought I'd look up a magnetic door stopper.I'm absolutely in love with this product. It works just like I was hoping, and even better. The neat thing is that the door stopper part has a very open, radial surface with which to grab the door bumper. This means if you are installing the stopper on a wall, you can mount it either vertically or horizontally and it will still work great. Just depends on your aesthetics. It also means that it should work just fine mounted on the floor. After having received this, I did wonder (as others have) for a minute about how to get the pieces apart. But if you look at the photos, you'll notice that the stopper has a screw part (nipple) in the middle. After a couple of seconds, I realized that both the stopper and the bumper just need to be unscrewed in order to get to the screw holes. The instructions do not mention this point, but it's pretty intuitive. I did need to stick a couple of small screwdrivers in each hole of the bumper and twist to get it to unscrew. If you are installing this on wood baseboard and door (like I did), you won't need the anchor plugs. Just use the screws. Easy peasy with judicial use of a screw gun (drill). I have to mention that I have quite a bit of remodeling experience, so it took me maybe 5 minutes to get this all installed. But even if you don't have that experience, just take a few minutes to think and use some common sense - it'll work out nicely for you.Installing on tile is a bit more work. In that case, I think you'd only want to mount the stopper with the ring completely perpendicular to the door. Also, installing on surfaces other than wood is where your plastic anchors would come into play. The little instruction card mentions using a 3/32" bit for anchors - that's not correct at all - way too small of a bit. I think that was a misprint. Should be a 3/16" bit (twice the size) at least. And make sure you use a *masonry* bit, not a normal wood or metal bit.Another neat thing is that the bumper comes with a spring inside it. Once installed, it keeps the bumper/stopper connection from being a jarring experience. That spring inside the bumper, though, does make it hard to screw the face back on after you've mounted it. Again, just be patient.I'd also like to point out that most of the negative reviews of this product are unwarranted, and most likely done by those who didn't really understand what this product is for and how it should be used. The magnetic attraction is PERFECT for interior use. Yet I see reviews that say this won't keep the door open during gale-force winds (to paraphrase). What the heck? Please understand what a product is designed for before you buy it.Anyway, 5 star recommended. It's good-looking, adaptable, works well and super cheap to boot. Plus, it's actually a nice match for all the oil-rubbed bronze fixtures we've recently been upgrading to. (Sorry about the poor picture - phone upgrade is in consideration haha) 5GreatNifty little door stop, easy to install with a few screws and it tightens down to protect my wall and keep the door open when I want it to. The Wall side of the stop is actually spring-loaded to absorb impact from the door. You have to be a little gentle for the magnet to kick in if you have a heavy door; the magnet is not incredibly strong but it seems to be a good balance. Enough to hold the door when you want it to, but not enough to be annoying and stick open when you're using the door normally.Aesthetically it looks good too, although the silver plate in the stop contrasts a little more than I expected from the darker antique brass finish. The set complements my antique brass doorknob well, and overall is very simple and elegant. 5
