Customer Reviews

Not compatible with Kohler Rialto 3386 made in mid 2000's I bought this flapper as it is supposed to fit on the Kohler Rialto one-piece toilets. Our toilets were made in 2008 and this flapper does not fit. The flapper itself is the correct size, but the rod on the back of the flapper is too thick to snap onto the existing slots on back of the black overflow pipe. The old flapper has a thinner section of the rod that snaps into a black overflow pipe to hold it in place. This model is all one thickness for the attaching rod and does not snap onto the overflow pipe as a result. Check to see how yours mounts before ordering this. 1Good Product... I have several Kohler Rialto toilets in my house and keep one of these on hand as a spare. Eventually the flapper will start to leak and the toilet runs intermittently-wasting water needlessly. Keeping an extra saves a special trip to go buy one, and I've found them to be a couple of bucks cheaper on Amazon than at Home Depot or Lowes. These are easy to replace, and as other reviewers have noted, look at where the black bar is positioned before removing the old one. Also note which link on the chain is attached to the flush handle arm.I have found the Kohler brand flappers to last longer than the generic "will-fit" versions. 4Make sure you check your specific toilet. Only reason for the three stars is that this product tends to rot out in a relatively short period. That said, if you have a Kohler toilet this is the one to use. I have tried the "universal" ones in the past and they are just too fiddle to adjust for proper seating. It can be done - but give yourself a few hours to do it! Not sure if the problem is only with Koehler toilets but that has been my experience. Installation take about 5 minutes for this one.Make sure you get the correct size for your particular toilet - measure the on the unit before you purchase. No prizes for guessing how I found this out!!! 3Great product, but the instructions could be clearer. Genuine Kohler product, not a knock-off. Had to replace two at once and wasn't looking forward to the "tank trauma." Pay attention to the visual instructions on the back of the package. Otherwise, you might think the item snaps into place; instead, it slides from right to left (depending on whether you have a right flush or left flush model). Also, when you trim the pull chain to fit, don't get confused by the instruction that states "no more than three links" dangling. In reality, what it means is, if there are more than three dangling (and on the Rialto there will be), cut the excess of or the dangle could get caught between the flapper and the drain seat, and that will cause the toilet to run continuously. In short, if you do it right the first time, it will take less than 5 minutes. 5Finally, a fix to a previously terrible design Kohler finally seems to have fixed the worst designed flapper in the history of plumbing. Earlier generations this flapper (which is the only flapper to fit certain Kohler models) were manufactured from one piece of plastic, including the thin plastic axle that the flapper rotates about. Over time, the plastic around the pivot points and arms deformed and the flapper would no longer stop the flow of water into the drain. I had to buy a new flapper about every year or so because of this problem since Kohler designs that use this part typically have a reservoir that is integrated into the toilet and you would have to replace the whole thing just to be able to use a different flapper. This new design has a solid bar that serves as the axis for the flapper, and the arms that attach to this axis seems to have been enforced. It works great so far. I will update this review if I notice any problems with the new design. 5Dear Kohler design team: What were you thinking? This flapper is perfect for my toilet, economically priced, and the delivery was speedy. Although, if I hadn't read the reviews here (thank you Irina G. and T. Hill; slide the pin into the slot first), the 5-minute installation would've been a frustrating nightmare. Hmmm... A frustrating nightmare? That perfectly describes my feelings about what it's like to maintain my Kohler toilet! This very specific, proprietary "Kohler GP84995 2-Inch Flapper Used In Various One-Piece Toilets" isn't available in my local stores, and none of the "universal" flappers fit. Apparently, Kohler doesn't live in the same universe as the rest of us! It took three trips to the hardware store to buy and return the wrong flappers - and I still ended up paying for something that didn't work. Why am I surprised? This is the same company that thought it was a good idea to require me to jury rig a couple of mollys in order to fasten on my replacement toilet seat. Why jury rig, you may ask? Because I'm not going to pay nearly $50 for the proprietary "Kohler 84999 Toilet Seat Anchor Kit" (that makes it possible to tighten the bolts for the seat), when that kit should cost $5. Really. Seriously? Who designs a toilet so it's literally impossible to simply put a plastic nut on the other end of the plastic bolts, the way you can with every other toilet in the world? You don't see them anyway, so why design it so the receptacle for bolts is inside the body of the bowl? Kohler, I bought your expensive toilet. Why punish me for it by making it so difficult to maintain? 3Get this one not the knock-off. Really. Get the genuine Kohler part. I bought the knock-off last time and the construction is totally different. The black hinge is rigid on the kohler part. On the knock-off it's all red rubber. You want the rigid plastic hinge. The rubber hinge never seemed to seat and seal reliably. The rigid one seated well and needed little (if no) jiggling. 5Doesn t fkn fit. I ll never buy another Kohler product again. I ve never wasted as much time in my life as trying to get a toilet flapper to work properly. This one, although the exact model that is supposed to go with my toilet per the instructions, didn t fit because the plastic bar s diameter is too wide. I first bought a generic but that didn t seal properly then this off amazon and it doesn t fit. Trying to save a couple on a new toilet when I could have got 10% off by just buying a new toilet is infuriating. My grandchildren, should I be fortunate enough to have them, and their grandchildren will not buy a fkn kohler product because of this joke. Into the trash because I don t have more time to waste on returning this junk. Last 8 bucks kohler gets out of me. 1Fit my k3386DA just fine A good fit and good replacement for my flapper on my k3386da. Make sure you pay attention to which slot the old one is in on the standpipe before you remove it. Also, note the illustrations on the back of the package on how to replace it. My old one was rubber in the back, and just popped out of the slot, but the new shaft must be slid in from the SIDE, not popped in. Make sure you also note how the shaft comes in the flapper, so you insert the flapper in the correct orientation. 5Perfect replacement flapper This was the perfect replacement flapper for my Kohler toilet. It was easy to install, but read the directions. It installed slightly differently than the original flapper that was in there. (My husband texted me and said it wasn't going to work. Then he texted me a few minutes later and said, "Maybe it will work, I just read the instructions." ) After guessing which model toilet I had, I discovered the model number impressed in the ceramic of the tank as well as a sticker under the tank lid that had a diagram of all the parts and their part numbers. So, check your tank or tank lid if you're unsure of the model and replacement part needed. 5
