Customer Reviews

Big size is deceptively great! The only time I use a crock pot is when I'm bringing food somewhere. This was for gumbo on Superbowl Sunday. At first we were worried...it didn't look like it held much food. Wrong! It held the entire, giant pot of gumbo! And the locking lid is great because food always spills in the car otherwise. 30 plus people stuffed themselves with gumbo. It stayed perfectly warm and didn't burn. Cleanup was simple.5Almost perfectI love almost everything about the HB 7 Qt Slow Cooker. The four rubber feet really keep it stable and prevent sliding on the countertop. The fact that the handles fold down when not needed for carying is really convenient and makes for better storage. The lid fits well and the latch is secure for traveling. My two dissatisfactions are that, even on "Low" heat, the liquid boils. Also, the first time (I learn quickly, so it won't happen again!) I lifted the lid, my arm was burned by the escaping steam. Because the lid is hinged to the cooker at the back, you cannot remove the lid in a sideways motion, but have to raise it straight upward, which releases the steam from the front of the cooker where I stood.4Lid seal failed after a year and expensive to replace.I like this overall, and it is attractive to have out for pot lucks and family meals. I like the lid storage and lid lock for travel. I really loved it when I needed to take a pot full of something fluid and didn't have to worry about it leaking all over in transit. However, the lid seal has failed after a year (I've had it for 2) and now I can't trust it to take anywhere when I need to take food because it leaks and makes a mess. But a 20 dollar replacement seal? That's half the cost of the entire unit! Knocking off stars for after purchase longevity for replacement parts. Otherwise, still working great cooking and cleaning wise.3This crockpot is big and looks good. It works and does the jobThis crockpot is big and looks good. It works and does the job. I bought this on May 6th 2014 and I used it with great results. Unfortunately I have to report that a few weeks ago, while I was cooking (a beautiful meat stew) I came back to check about 2 hours and I kid you not- the lid had CRACKED and GLASS WAS FLOATING in my stew!! I have never seen anything like this before. And I have products from this company and they generally hold up well. So I was super SUPER upset that day. I lost my meal and had to order pizza for dinner. Glass was floating everywhere.WTF???? Like how could this lid just crack all of a sudden? Was it the heat? I mean it's supposed to take that heat right? I contacted Amazon, (and as always) they were very courteous and said they couldn't do a return unfortunately because I was out of the return window. They offered an exception and sent me a label to return the unit and then MAYBE credit me back. The rep said they couldn't guarantee a refund. I didn't EXPECT Amazon to refund me money although it would have been nice, but I needed someone to explain this mystery. How this lid just CRACKED,pouring bits of glass all over my stew!Anyway, I checked the Hamilton Beach website and I noticed that they have this lid replacement at about $19 or so and I'm considering buying it but haven't decided yet. I almost just want to throw the whole thing out because I fear it may happen again with the new lid. That's why I only gave 4 stars. For the times it worked, it was EXCELLENT. Give it a try but.... if this ever happens to you, at least you'll know you're not the only one! Whew..I was SOOOO MAD that day!4Convenient! Lid can rest in the open position.Convenient that the lid is connected and will rest open while people are serving themselves throughout a couple hours (when you want the dish to be covered in between serving). There is no mess from drips and no need to find a place to set the lid.5When I saw that this one also featured a stay-open-for-serving hinged lid and had good reviews, I didn't hesitate to purchase itI was looking for a lock down lid for transporting. When I saw that this one also featured a stay-open-for-serving hinged lid and had good reviews, I didn't hesitate to purchase it. Ironically, the feature that led me to buy this product is the cause for what I don't like about it. I have no reason to think that the locking lid doesn't prevent spills, but the hinge and rubber gasket create a huge gap between the lid and the top of the pot on the side opposite the hinge unless the lid is locked! (See pictures #1-2.) So I thought, "Okay, all is not lost. It's not exactly convenient, but I'll just disengage the hinge while cooking and re-engage for serving or transporting. Well, it turns out that the design of the hinge is such that when the lid is disengaged from the hinge, there is a small gap (picture #3) on the hinge side because the arm that is attached to the lid rests on top of the hinge piece. (See picture #4.) Even that gap is far too large to allow for efficient cooking or to prevent RAPID moisture loss. Very disappointed. Poor engineering of a great idea. Hinge and gasket could easily be modified to eliminate the problems I have mentioned. Fortunately, I ordered with Amazon Prime, because I WILL be returning this item.1Good purchase We love this crockpot. The lid stays very tight with the latch. We have cooked many things in it, and are very pleased with our purchase. The only issue is that you do need to use a long oven glove, one that goes up your arm because when you open the lid steam can get ya. 5This is a nice Crockpot and it works wellThis is a nice Crockpot and it works well. One has to be very careful opening the lid or you will get burned. Wear oven mitts and be sure to stand to the side when opening. My complaint about this unit and most others made today are they cook way to fast and hot to be able to set it in the morning and come home to a nice meal in the evening from work. They cook in half the time as the old units and they aren't made as well as they were. All are made in China. I miss the old Rival crockpots, they were sturdy, made here in the USA and they did what they were supposed to do. I don't think I will purchase another one of the newer ones, I will go to Ebay and find an old Rival. This one replaced my other Crockpot brand that I used a few times when the liner cracked in half and the handles started falling apart. I would not recommend this brand.3Came with a bark scorpion in the box!!! so be careful. slow cooker works fine.Works as expected. BUT I should WARN everyone. I opened the box, removed the slow cooker and dropped the empty box in the middle of my kitchen on the floor. A few seconds later my dog was yelping and blowing and snorting and i looked and she had been stung by a bark scorpion that had come out of the box!!! I immediately gave her benadryl and had to give her pain meds for 30 hours after being stung. So be very very careful when you remove this from the box and immediately seal the box up and burn it or at least look through the box thoroughly!! I did research and said the bark scorpion is native to the country of Mexico and Arizona. I was told that my slow cooker was probably made in Mexico and that is where it got in the box. Just a note to be cautious!4Great features, cover is a selling point!Pros:- Snap on cover is such an awesome feature- Handles fold for easy storage- Cover flips up which is great so you don't need to find a place to put the cover down when its hot- Weight seems normalCons:- NoneQuality:The quality of this seems pretty good. This is the only reason it did not receive a five star review. The quality is well except that maybe the plastic could be a little more durable as it seems a little weak or lightweight. However with that being said I love the product. The cover snapping down is a huge selling point for me as it allows easy transportation when you are bringing it somewhere else. The other great thing is the ingenuity that went into the design. the cover can be opened and doesn't need to be taken off which is great. This means that you don't have to take off the cover and find a place to put it as it just flips up and stays there. Also another good point is that the handles fold down which allows for much easier storage.Value:The value is very reasonable for what you get ($30 - $48). Which all of the features, thought, and ingenuity that went into the design of this slow cooker, it seems well worth the price. I have only used it twice so far but everything seems to work great and I am happy with the purchase.4Doesn t seal properly and warm setting too hot.I chose to buy this particular crockpot for four reasons. One, I ve been wanting a seven quart for a few years now. Two, I won t buy one without a seal, for easy transporting. Three, the fact that it has a warm setting, which I use more than anything else. Four, the convenience of having the lid prop open, and can do everything one handed. Well, the seal doesn t seal properly, so I had a mess when I got it to church and the food burns/overcooks quickly when left on warm. I have used the warming setting on other crocks for years, and when this starts happening, I get a new one. The only thing I like is that it s seven quarts, and the lid propping. The problem is, the whole reason I wanted a seven quart, was so I could keep my soups hot all day, or longer. My old pot, I could do this for up to four days, before the food started to get overcooked, and never lost temp to worry about rancid food. With my kids getting older, they eat more, so wanted the bigger crock. Had to throw out over four quarts of loaded potato soup. I barely salvaged my keto taco soup before it ruined, and that was after just being on warm overnight! I will be looking for a new one, and am very disappointed in this one... I should have listened to the negative reviews, but tried to give the benefit of the doubt. I feel the rating I just have, was actually pretty generous.2
