Customer Reviews

The best purchase for the whole family in recent timesWe were very dissatisfied and concerned about the water quality in our apartment's tap water. It is chlorinated, at times it seems to be done a lot more than required, because the water smells chlorine - 100% chlorine. Imagine the agony when you are thirsty and that smelly water is what you have to drink. And add to that its hard water. The utility company said they will only look into it if others from our apartment complained the same. My wife's stomach would growl a lot, and most importantly her thirst would never quench after drinking the water. We used the pitchers with filters and it was no good. We started buying water from stores and it was becoming a hassle to keep stocked all time.I looked up online after my co workers suggested their positive experience with using the APEC RO systems in their houses. Our physician too suggested to look for a reverse osmosis filter due to its effectiveness. I ordered the coverless APEC portable countertop RO system to put an end to the "drinking water misery" at home. The set up was a breeze because the instructions were very simple and clearly written. The system is not at all heavy to lift and we were able to find the perfect spot in our kitchen countertop. After letting the system wash off for 10-15mins, my wife took the first sip to taste. She was deeply satisfied with the water quality and taste. To my surprise, she drank 5 full glasses of water in a span of one hour. She said she truly felt her thirst being quenched. That was very heartening to hear. I felt the same after drinking the water. And we now feed the same water to our kid without any hesitation. We both like the APEC system because it is simple, effective and very quiet. The only regret is that we waited so long. Our friends visiting from Detroit complemented the water taste and said it tasted like something from the mountains. I would suggest potential buyers to get the counter top RO system, merely because you can move it around or even fix it on the wall. If moving apartments you always have your filter system with you ready to set up. Here's wishing others get this product to solve their drinking water woes totally.5The Best Small Countertop Reverse Osmosis System in the MarketI purchased this system after extensive research. This is the best if not the only Reverse Osmosis system of its class. The water taste very refreshing and clean. The whole system is very small and takes very little room so it is perfect for use in a countertop of a small apartment. The system uses 5 stages of filtering to remove chemicals, dusts, etc. The installation was very easy . I was able to install it in a few minutes thanks to good step by step instructions in the owners manual that was included with the system. During the reverse osmosis there is a lot of waste water that can not be used as drinking water(all reverse osmosis systems produce this waste water in order to generate pure water) but this waste water can be used for other purposes such as watering the plants, etc. The process of filtering is rather quick and the price of the system is very reasonable. It certainly is a better and more economical alternative to purchasing bottled water. It also tastes better than distilled water which I used to have. Overall I am very happy with this purchase. Thank you Apec Water.5Awesome, but not completewow, I wish I would have bought one of these a long time ago!! But...The thing is, it's way to slow to wait for it to fill a glass of water, so you have to fill jugs. A gallon takes 15 minutes, and you're not going to sit there and watch it, and you can't do any kitchen work without the faucet. So you tend to get on the computer and forget the RO filter is running and waste water when it overflows.I'm not sure why they don't have a reservoir like the under-sink units have. That would make this complete. As it is, I bought a 5 gallon jug with a spigot. I put it on a mat the drains into the sink. This works okay. When it gets down to half-full, I turn the RO filter on and set a timer. If I don't hear the timer it just overflows onto the mat and into the sink. It's still a waste but with the larger jug and timer I've only forgotten about it once out of 10 times. This is a great unit, but see if you can find one with a reservoir. I'm sure the problem with the counter-top units is shutting off the water when full, but there has got to be a solution. ... or just get a large jug and a drain mat like I did. It's okay, I'm getting used to it.5LOTS of waste water!Pros: This makes great tasting water.Easy to hook up in two minutes.Has a flow switch to direct water away from the filters if you need to run hot water or do dishes.Cons: Very slow depending on water pressure. We have regular pressure, not high, and it takes 90 seconds to output 8 ounces. Also, it produces as much (or a little more) "Do not drink" water as clean water. I've never used RO water system before, and was shocked at the amount of water. I've been catching it in a pitcher and watering flowers, but wow, with a lot of use I can see an increase in the water bill. Also, the tube to output purified water just hangs out there. I screwed a cup hook into the nearby cabinet to hang the hose and keep the hose off the counter.UPDATE: I raised it from 2 stars to 5 stars, since it does what it is supposed to do, make clean water. I bought testers, and it lowered the PPM to 19 from 166. I was concerned about the PH, but the water from the tap reads 8.05, and the purified water is 8.35. The FDA says water should be between 6.5 and 8.5 so I am not greatly concerned. I was a little concerned about no minerals in the water, and the minerals being leached from the body, so I have bought drops that can be put into the water to add back minerals. They do sell a version of this that has a filter with calcium that makes the water more alkaline. It is https://www.amazon.com/APEC-Countertop-Water-Installation-Free-RO-CTOP-PH/dp/B06XY8CHL2/ref=sr_1_35Worth every penny and moreThis countertop RO system is perfect fir apartments or situations where you can't install a RO that has a holding tank. For those who want to understand where the waste water comes out, it flows out of a special outlet that is part of the adapter that replaces your faucets aerator. There is a lot of waste water ("brine"). The systems are designed generally to give you one part clean/filtered water to two or three parts waste water. It's just how they work. Collect the brine water in some gallon jugs and use it on your plants or something if it bothers you to waste so much water. The RO can only filter as fast as the water pressure will allow, so it's unfair to knock stars off for a slow system. I filtered about 2.5 gallons in slightly under an hour so clearly I have good water pressure. But that's just out of APECs control. What this will give you is clean water with no residual taste or smell. I'm in Texas and this system is a godsend. I'll be getting an under the counter system with a holding tank when I finally get a house.5clean water with a reasonable pricetagNearing my 3rd year, using 5-10 gallons a week..readings on the tds meter is at 2..sometimes 6...never seen it higher than 11..Keep thinking its time to buy a new set of filters, but the meter is saying different! ( and I cross test the meter to make sure im getting accurate readings-- with water as well as sterile measuring cups).no more dragging bottles to the store, not knowing if or when the filters have been changed.water tastes like water again..nothing keeps the mind clearer!a bit tricky with hooking up the faucet screw into the sink( quite a bit of backsplash)..i personally do not leave the filter on all the time- I have it nearby, and hook it up when its time to refill jugs- I did discover that by taking some food grade stainless steel mesh ( from a coffee press filter), and placing 2 small circles inside the faucet head ( that this filter comes with), has completely eliminated backsplash- even when I try! Makes it a lot easier to leave that hardware on the faucet and use between filterings.Wasn't sure if this was worth it at first, but after the past couple years with superior taste, and the meter proving it..completely worth it!!even easy to take with me if needed- not heavy AT ALL.5GREAT PRODUCT. SIMPLE DESIGN SO THERE'S LITTLE TO GO WRONG.I looked at the cheaper countertop RO systems but when I went to their web sites the only way to contact their customer service was through a chat line and it was always offline. This mfg has a working phone number and helpful information. I ordered the RO with the box so it would be easier to keep it clean. The output line is just a hose with a red cap. I keep the hose in a plastic bag to keep it clean. The simple hose output works great for me because I use my RO system to fill a 5 gallon bottle with an electric pump. The pump output is a lot faster then the RO system. From there I fill my 1 gallon humidifiers. In the winter the humidifiers go through about 4 gallons a day. I have owned under sink RO systems but never again. Crawling under the sink to service the system is a big mess (water all over the sink cabinet shelf and the floor) and a pain in the neck and back.5High quality product, indispensible for my family.I've been living for a couple of years in an overseas city with tapwater so bad that it ruins the taste of tea, coffee and soup (to say nothing of being obviously unusable as drinking water). This APEC countertop system has been life-changing for us.Filtering out 90+% of the heavy metals and other suspended solids that our municipal water system was dosing us with has made a truly enormous difference. The water that comes out of the APEC tastes even better than the bottled mineral water we used to buy for drinking water. The product itself is well-engineered, and the filter bypass attached very easily to our kitchen sink tap; the bypass lever for allowing non-filtered water directly through is intuitive and easy to use. After a couple of days, you almost forget that this thing is attached to the sink. I only wish I'd stocked up on a few replacement cartridges while in the US (the first filter needs to be changed every six months.)5Easy pure waterI use this on a daily basis for both drinking water and water for coffee brewing. The water it dispenses is only ~10-15ppm, which is close enough to totally pure for me. Since totally pure water isn't ideal for both purposes, I recommend adding back in some minerals, which I like to do with concentrated drops I mix myself. I've seen some premixed ones sold as well if that's too much trouble for you. It's a little bit of trouble, but worth it to know exactly what's in my water. It's reasonably fast to dispense, and the bypass lever lets me keep it connected all the time so I don't have to fuss with hooking it up and unhooking it to go between filling water jugs and washing dishes. Just make sure to get in the habit of always flipping it to bypass when finished so you don't accidentally run any hot water through it.The case is also nice, since it lets me keep some of my water accessories, like my mineral concentrates and measuring beaker, on top of it, so the (rather large) footprint isn't stolen by the filter. It's significantly larger than I expected, but because of the case that doesn't matter. Definitely spring for the case upgrade if you're on the fence.5Best Affordable RO Filter but GET THE CALCIUM CARBONATE FILTER WITH IT! READ WHYI'd like to first comment on how happy my husband and I are with this system now, but first I will note some errors on my journey to find the best filter.I did not know much about RO systems or much about any water filter or water specifications (what's good, bad or necessary for our health).I was also looking for an affordable but top quality way of drinking clean water so I had assumed that getting this filter would solve all my problems.I bought this countertop RO filter (without the calcium carbonate filter which is about $20 bucks cheaper), about two weeks later my husband had his first gout attack.I then started to do my research and I learned that there are studies suggesting that because the RO filter system removes EVERYTHING (good and bad minerals and impurities) out of the water and because when water is acidic it tends to compesate by taking from other sources on its path, so it will take minerals out of your body. Absolute clean will also corrode metals, it will leach minerals in contact with metals, it will do the same to our bodies. I started to panic on the inside knowing that my husband was suffering in terrible amounts of pain that wouldn't stop and to know that it was my fault, my lack of research. I contacted the seller and they helped me to get the calcium filter that I needed to stabilize the water. To see my husband in so much pain as I hand't seen before I was considering returning the filter. But I did more research and I found that we needed the calcium and other minerals in our water. The RO filter alone can potentially be a problem for some people but with proper research you'll be fine. My suggestion is to buy the APEC countertop RO filter with the CALCIUM CARBONATE FILTER. It's called Alkaline, instead of saving a few bucks. Why? Because studies suggest the importance of minerals in the water and that acidic water will leach the minerals out of your body. Our body will try to balance it out and water does the same thing. Our body needs a certain level of PH, around 7.3 PH, and acidic water will have the PH at the different level that our bodies need. I strongly suggest that if you are considering RO filter to include the filter that balances the PH in the water. Some side effects can potentially show signs long time after you've been drinking acidic water and it's not worth saving a few bucks and putting your health at risk.If you bought this filter you can buy the calcium carbonate filter and add to this. Simply contact APEC CS if unsure which one, they were super fantastic and helpful. It's been almost a month and we only installed the calcium filter yesterday (feb/ 05/18), my husband is still recorvering from the gout but we believe that this will help him a lot and hopefully never suffer from gout again.Another thing worth mentioning is that this filter will waste a lot of water but as a conscious green person I cannot bear the idea of adding more waste and not reclycling or reusing what we already have. So, be creative. My creative way of not letting the waste water go to waste is that I fill jars and I reause for dishes or for plants. If you use for plants it's better to let the water sit for at least a couple of days before watering the plants. To me, it makes sense to repurpose something that otherwise would go to waste. If you don't like the idea of doing your dishes with "waste" tap water then you can water your garden or find some other ways of reausing it.The TDS result will change when you add the calcium filter but THAT'S OKAY, it's only the good stuff.TDS RESULTS:TAP = avg of 44RO (without calcium filter) = 3RO with Calcium filter = 15But it also changed the PH level. Please see the images and also note that this isn't the best PH tester because it's one that we bought for the aquarium but we decided to use what we had to notice the difference. We will buy a specific PH tester for drinking water in the filter and maybe I will add it to the review. Because I only had the idea to take a photo minutes later it's not showing result exactly as I first saw it but it will give you an idea. The PH comparison image:Notice that that the yellow square highlights the ph. Notice that with the calcium filter that the color is more neutral and to the desired level that we need?Below the old filter, constitutes this RO filter without a calcium filter. The color looks more pale and acidic.Inside the pink squares it analylizes the alkalinity of the water.Again, the colors aren't as vibrant because the strips were drying when I had the idea of taking a photo. But in the future I will possibly add it here the results of my future tests for the specific PH tests.Bottom line is: We are VERY happy to finally undestand more what is that we need and how to achieve clean and healthy water. Do your proper research to learn for yourself more. It's not worth saving a few bucks to get the filter without the calcium filter. It's better to think long term. Also, this filter generates water to be wasted can you find ways to reuse and recycle the water? The customer service was extremely helpful and I can't thank them enough for helping me out. Specially because I was freaking out on the inside to see my husband in such terrible pain. We suspected that it was this issue w/ the water because gout can be formed by many things such as eating meat, which we don't do, we also discarded some other things, which lead us to believe that it was the difference in the water. But, we can solve everything and what I learned from this is the importance of doing extra research to make sure it's a good, healthy decision.I almost forgot to mention that when you use the filter, the filtered water will pour slower than your tap. Here our tactic plan is to fill up 1 gallon of glass jars while we are in the kitchen taking care of things. I timed and for me it takes me about 18 minutes to fill up one gallon. It's not a problem at all for us because while in kitchen cleaning or cooking I am also filling up the daily jugs of water. We strive to drink 1 gallon of water each. Now that we figured it out I'd say that this system with the calcium filter is a 10 out of 10. Buy with confidence but do your research beforehand.5
